Hollywood, like any other big business culture, is driven entirely by the profit motive. They often make unneeded movie sequels, when they think they will generate income for the studio. Typically these are films that I do not think need to be made. Additionally, they are rarely films that I would choose to see. Exceptions to this include The Godfather II, and Aliens, the sequel to Alien.
That said, however, there are film sequels that I would like to see made, and hopefully some decision-maker in Hollywood will read this, and consider my ideas.
I was a big fan of the film My Cousin Vinny, and think that if made properly, a sequel about Vinny's law career could be very funny.
I would love to see a short film from John Hughes about the conversation that Cameron had with his dad, upon his return home, after the Ferrari was demolished, in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Another potentially interesting film would be a film about Rose's mother from Titanic, after not being reunited with her daughter, and having to make her way through life.
So how about it, Hollywood? Let's start thinking a little outside the box, before you decide to green-light Rocky XIII or the next Home Alone sequel.

While not a movie sequel, but it'd be great as a movie or series of movies, I've always wanted to see Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek spin-off series featuring Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln (from the episode Assignment Earth). I always thought that was an awesome idea, with intriguing characters. It'd be great too to keep it set in the late 1960s - early 1970s. In many ways, present day issues mirror those from that time and it could be very interesting to explore them from the perspectives of the alien-trained human secret operative and his somewhat ditzy, yet intuitively smart secretary/partner. Plus it'd be great fun to see the 1960s realistic recreated in a way that focused more on the positive aspects as opposed to the negative aspects we see so often in Mad Men. Ron Howard, this is the idea you should have bought instead of that proto-Data android story!
I agree. I too had always thought that would be a cool spin-off series. But really, who now, is as cute as Teri Garr, was then? No one, I think. ;-)
I once saw in the networked TrekNet Citadel room, and idea to create a Star Trek The Next Generation spin-off based around the episode First Contact. In that episode Riker was living on a planet that was about to achieve space travel, and he was evaluating whether or not they were ready for first contact, and then he was discovered, and found to be an alien.
A series where we get to see more of that, might be fun.
