As much as I am a PGP supporter, I find myself supporting a PGP encryption alternative that just came out called GPG (which stands for GNU Privacy Guard, click on the GNU link to find out about them) which is a drop in replacement for PGP, except that GPG uses no patented algorithms and is completely free of charge. Hopefully GPG will become as popular as PGP and will be made available for as many platforms as is PGP. Right now UNIX/Linux and Windows versions exist.
In order to make GnuPG easier to use for Windows users, a graphical program was needed which would integrate GnuPG into the Windows desktop. This was addressed in a really cool program called Win Privacy Tray (WinPT). I use it all of the time on my Win box.
